Dave Crossland - Gigs, Videos, and the Red-Headed Stepchild

Greetings Good People Everywhere,

Some cool stuff going on --We've got some videos on the web, mp3s, and yours truly has his first endorsement deal!

But first, a little gig in Cambridge you should know about:

SUN, June 11

1912 Massachusetts Ave.

Cambridge, MA

no cover, 21

I'll be playing with the band from 7-9 pm at this hip little hole in the wall, so come on down, bring friends, or send your local emissaries.

So the last couple months have been a whirlwind of fun.  Played down in Virginia with Terri Allard, out in Colorado with Cliff Eberhardt, back in Ann Arbor with Maura O'Connell, and I've just returned from the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.  Too much fun and looking forward to more road trips.

One of the gigs in Colorado was the Front Porch House Concert Series near Boulder, hosted by Jon & Lu Eckhard.  They've got an amazing setup in a beautiful home with a great sound system, the Rocky Mountains just outside the window, and a video camera in the back.  Brian Patrick captures the footage and has posted portions of the show on the web.  So if I haven't yet made it to your town, check out one of the concerts I opened for Cliffie in Colorado (follow the link and click on "videos," there should be two to choose from) -->  http://www.davecrossland.com/index.php?page=gallery

The Story:

So my friend, Tate, whom I've known since I was three years old when we used to live next door to each other and play Ultraman in the sandbox between our houses in Akron Ohio, now runs sound for a group widely considered the best Beatles tribute band in the world, 1964 The Tribute (check them out at http://www.1964thetribute.com).  '64 is constantly flying from one place to the next allowing Tate to rack up countless frequent flyer miles and join elite flying clubs that provide free drinks and hot oil massages for anyone traveling with vintage Beatles gear and a band, but that's beside the point.  Tate is in this little music store in Annapolis, Maryland, sees acoustic guitar strings for sale behind the counter, and takes immediate action.  The next and only thing I know is that a package has arrived on my doorstep in Boston.  Tate never sends me anything via snail mail and didn't tell me anything was coming, so I know something is a little...unusual.  I open the package, and staring me in the face is a drawing of a long-haired, red-headed adolescent hippie freak, grinning beside the words "Red-Headed Stepchild Heavy 'Coustic Guitar Strings".  Scrawled in sharpie on the plastic encasement are the unmistakable block caps of Tate reading "YOU SHOULD ENDORSE THESE".

Now, what Tate knows, and you may not, is that in my very early years, I had what may have been the hugest red-headed 'fro of any white boy in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions combined. To boot, my parents were divorced, Mom had remarried, and I was indeed a red-headed stepchild. So I looked them up on the web and called the good people of Knucklehead Strings, way out in Utah, and explained to them that this is destiny. They agreed, and the rest is history in the making. I actually love their strings (wouldn't do this otherwise, no matter what Tate says). I've uploaded their beautiful artwork along with my college meal card picture so that you all can truly understand the magnitude of this collision of cosmic forces.  -->  http://www.davecrossland.com/index.php?page=news&display=111

That's the scoop for now.  Thanks to all of you for your support and enthusiasm --I am lovin' every single gig these days.  And as always, if you'd like to help out in any way, feel free to contact Mary "Everybody Loves Mary" Pittari, my awesome manager, at mailto:mary@davecrossland.com
