1/17/08 ~ Goodbye Day Job ~

Hello Beautiful World, and happy new year from Boulder, Colorado.

Yep, I just got in last night and have to head out for a gig at Avo's pretty soon, but I wanted to fill you in on the latest news: I quit my day job!

Yep, you heard that right.  Now don't get me wrong, I am a true believer in the advice of the old blues masters -- that whole "don't quit your day job" thing.  But given the steady rise of giggage over the last year, following that advice has been a real challenge.  So a few weeks ago, I said goodbye to the 9 to 5, freeing me up to travel more --and maybe do a little work-type work on the side...  So things are going great and I'm very excited about the whole thing.  (Yeah, baby...)

As for the upcoming CD, it's called "The Set That Wasn't" and it's at the manufacturers right now.  --We should have the finished product in about 3 weeks.  It's the first time I've recorded an entire CD live with a band and I'm diggin' it.  That whole thing about being able to hear the energy of a live performance?  It's real.  You can totally hear the fun we had playing together in the studio.  And Liz Linder did the photography again, so the pics are awesome.

So did I mention being freed up to travel more?  Well, it's not an understatement.  I've got a mess of gigs this month.  I'm out in Colorado right now, soon to be headed for Utah and the Sundance Film Festival again.  After that I'm hitting the Midwest.  I must be insane, because I love doing this stuff --although booking the flights to get from place to place was a little daunting this time...

But things are great, I'm insanely busy, and I'm psyched for 2008.  Thank you all for everything, and I'll see you out there somewhere.

Big Big Love,
Dave
